I would like to add a few comments. I am a cashier at a major grocery store in Illinois and have been for the past 30 years. I feel the need to inform all that in all my 30 years of cashiering I have seen most food stamp recipients use their allotment for mostly convenience foods and junk foods. Most of my food stamp customers buy chips, snack foods, soda pop, decorated birthday cakes and frozen convenience foods. I have rarely seen a food stamp order that consisted of the staples I must purchase to make my grocery dollar go further. Just two weeks ago I had a young couple come in and purchase lobster tails and shrimp with their allotment while I am working two jobs and can only buy chicken or beef when it is on sale.
