I'm just so annoyed by this attempt to live poor for a week. I live poor every single day, year in and year out. I don't have a pantry filled with extra things to make food palatable. I don't have the ability to go out and buy BEEF of any kind, high or low fat. Beef is too expensive. My family of 3, including two growing and HUNGRY teenagers, lives on SSDI. We do not qualify for foodstamps because I make too much money on SSDI. This is because food stamps and other government programs that are supposed to be a safety net rely on the ridiculously outdated federal poverty rates to determine eligibility. Rates that do not take into account regional cost of living, rates that have not been changed in years. This is what congress needs to focus on, not media stunts about what it means to stuff your face with pasta and rice every freaking day.

CHANGE THE WAY THE POVERTY RATE IS CALCULATED. APPLY COST OF LIVING CHANGES.

Do something that WILL make a difference. You eating like the poor for a week doesn't do a damn thing to help us. The ONLY thing that will help is to revise the poverty rates. Until then, you are completely worthless to the poor. I'm sorry, but you are.

I have the perfect solution here to this problem...I say lets pay Congress minumum wage and see how they make ends meet, keep in mind that they still have to pay for utilitie and bus fare!!!

In order that people may be happy in their work, these things are needed: they must be fit for it; they must not do much of it; and they must have a sense of success in it. Do you think so?
